Successful Supervisory Skills Training & Coaching GroupSM

Purpose:

To provide new supervisors with “the” essential skills to establish effective relationships with their teams and foster team synergy to achieve workplace goals


Why Attend:

This series has at its core the concept that truly successful supervisors are ones who connect with elements of the humanity of their direct reports – communication, trust, integrity, understanding others’ talents, and a desire to help and engage others

The optional, follow-up skills coaching group will deepen your understanding and provide a supportive environment of peers to create and work toward accomplishing meaningful development goals, and to practice new skills that match your goals

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the roles and responsibilities as a leader in your organization
  • Adapt your leadership style to meet the needs of individual team members
  • Improve communication to effectively set expectations for yourself and your direct reports

Content of Successful Skills Training Series: Four Bi-Weekly Classes

  • Week 1– I’m a Supervisor – Now What?!
  • Week 2 – Leading Effective Teams
  • Week 3 – Interpersonal Communication
  • Week 4 – Coaching and Developing Employees


Optional Component – “Mastering Essential Skills” Coaching Group:

Accelerate your supervisory effectiveness by enrolling in a three month coaching group designed to help you master the concepts of the workshop. The group will meet once per month for 90 minutes via teleconference and participants will use the group setting to work on development goals that will propel them to even greater success. The group discussions will use the concepts from the series as the foundation; however, all discussions and activities of the group will be customized to meet the development needs of the members.


Benefits of participating in the coaching group:

  • Leadership styles and work behavior self assessment using the Page Work Behavior Inventory
  • Development of your own customized supervisory development action plan
  • Peer support and accountability as you work on specific leadership goals and practice new skills
  • Group is limited to participants who complete the workshop series; the minimum size is 5 participants and the maximum is 6

Required Books to Purchase for Workshop

  • The New Supervisor: Stepping up with Confidence (A Crisp Fifty-Minute Book), 4th Ed., Elwood Chapman and Wil McKnight. (2002)
  • Leadership and the One Minute Manager. Ken Blanchard, Patricia Zigarmi, Drea Zigarmi (2000).


Program Delivery Format:

  • Four, 75 minute webinar sessions for the training series
  • Three, 90 minute teleconference calls for the coaching group


Time Commitment:

  • Classes for training series run for 75 minutes every other week
  • Participants will have one on-the-job application project after each class session to be completed prior to the next session
  • Advance work for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th classes is no more than 1 hour per week
  • Optional “Mastering Essential Skills” coaching group meets following workshop completion, 90 minutes, once per month for 3 months


Technical Requirements:

  • A computer to access the webinars (specific link and instructions will be provided to registrants in advance of each session)
  • A good telephone or computer headset is suggested. You have the choice of listening through your computer or a telephone
  • Corded phones work best
  • Do not use a speakerphone or cell phone because they often bring distracting static or echoes into the call
  • If you use a cordless handset or wireless headset, make sure it’s of excellent quality
